Three London hotel bars – The Savoy’s American Bar, Mondrian’s Dandelyan and Connaught Bar – took spots 2-4 at the prestigious World’s 50 Best Bars awards last week. Yeah, bit obvious, that. Lacking a bit of the ol’ curveball wackiness, don’t you think? Well, you could raise a glass in an achingly cool yet overlooked underdog instead. We say seek out the hip-hop soundtrack and booze mastercups at Satan’s Whiskers (E2); channel your inner whiskey-sinking noir detective at Blind Pig (W1); drop beneath the floorboards and ask for an off-the-menu maple Old Fashioned at Discount Suit Company (E1); and get your head into the grapefruity mescal of a Tommy’s Cut at Joyeux Bordel (EC2).
