Navigate a vinyl jungle at Hackney Record Fair

An independent record label boss's guide to thriving at this weekend's Hackney Record Fair

“Record sellers are far too busy unearthing the legends of tomorrow to think of practical things like ‘how to take card payments’,” says Simon Morley, UK label manager for City Slang (Caribou, Gold Panda). “Do them a favour: carry cash. And take risks! Pick up albums based on artwork you love the look of, or take a punt on an awesome band name – like Fat White Family, Meatraffle or King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. Finally, stick around. These guys don’t wanna carry all those records back to their office. They wanna sell them. Stay until the end and you’re in with a chance of some decent discounts.”
