Beyond Caravaggio is one of those art shows that you’re told is A Big Deal, but all you really know about the dude is whatever the first paragraph on Wikipedia says. It opens at the National Gallery tomorrow (12 Oct); he specialises in those ridiculously detailed, “is that a photograph?”-type paintings of dramatic scenes that no one seems to attempt anymore. And many 17th century painters imitated his style because it was just too bloody sexy not to.
