Spring trends you need to know

Style Week kicks off with a roundup of the season's must-haves

Chunky Trainers

You want: Kicks with enough heft to make walking seem like a perpetual Truffle Shuffle every time you take a step. Last year’s Yeezy Wave Runner and their sort have only fortified the movement for extra bulbous statement soles this spring.

So buy: Correctly assuming you have neither the burning desire to camp out until June for the super hyped adidas Yung 1 sneaks, nor the steely constitution needed for those over stacked Balenciagas, slip into some Clarks Trigenic Evo hybrids (£130) or these New Balance 990V2 doozies (£190) instead.

Logo Tees

You want: A tee that turns you into a walking billboard. The mania for big bold retro logos continues to cruise through menswear brands, old-school and streetwear alike. You’ll want a piece of it juuust peeking out from behind your unzipped transitional jacket, or tucked into your jeans, all weekend long.

So buy: END… the delicious digital larder of menswear, is full of ‘em. Go pick up the Tommy Jeans Collegiate tee (£35), Kenzo’s Distorted Logo tee with bonus ringer-style neckline (£85), or A.P.C’s Kraft number (£75) which is crying out to meet your straight-cut denim and beat-to-heck Converse.

Dad Jeans

You want: The sort of denim yer Da’ was rocking through those long-haired, sexy, smokey Uni days that he only ever talks about when Mum’s out. Loose, plain, mid-wash jeans were all over the spring/summer 2018 shows of Martine Rose, Lou Dalton, and Oliver Spencer. A veritable mega-trend if ever we saw one, guv’nor!

So buy: Short of splattering them with Ronseal fence treatment, you won’t get any more Dadish than a pair of grandmaster Levi’s 501 Original Fit Jeans (£65) in stonewash.

Lifeproof Jackets

You want: Loadsa pockets. Bloody hundreds of the things! 500 pockets! Or four, like the ones that come on those indestructible, functional jackets that super rugged American heritage outerwear brands make. Yeah, just four. Chill out, can we?

So buy: You say American heritage outerwear, we say Seattle hardboys Filson. Climb inside this limited-edition Canvas Short Cruiser (£190), and we’ll betcha some serious moolah you won’t be crawling out of it until summer.

Downtime Shirts

You want: To look you’ve bastardised a Riviera deckchair. Wide vertical stripes might be the most inescapable trend of spring, with Paul Smith, Ami, Balmain and Etudes laying the groundwork on the catwalks and Armie Hammer in Call Me By Your Name on the big screen.

So buy: Mr Porter get it totally right with their in-house brand’s Camp-Collar Striped Cotton Shirt (£135), as do kings of US cool Saturdays NYC (approx. £126.60), and Loom (£49), with their washed-out prep-tacular one.
